Inevitable Animal is the musical collaboration of Annie Lane Medlin and M. Parker Kozak. An unlikely pairing, the two first met in 2011 while working as sound mixers in New York City's independent film scene. Quickly forging a successful working relationship, the duo partnered together on a number of films over the subsequent years.

Realizing their similar tastes and sensibilities when it came to music, they soon began jamming together in their spare time. What had started as a way to stave off boredom while working on set quickly evolved into an earnest artistic collaboration. Beginning in 2013, the two embarked on a new endeavor, making use of their time between film shoots to write, rehearse, and record their original material.

Half Way Home, their debut album, marks the culmination of two and a half years of work. It was recorded primarily at Kozak's home studio in Brooklyn, with additional sessions in both North Carolina and Maine.

Opting to forego traditional distribution models, the band decided to make the album freely available to both download and stream online.
